While we were waiting in the waiting room, some of the strangest things happened in front of our eyes. A young mom was reading out activities to play to her son. They brought a magazine to occupy him while waiting. She read and explained each exercise. They were the only ones talking in the waiting room. I guess the rest of us were still asleep. At some point, a man asked her to keep it down as he said it was too loud. After a few exchanged words, she continued reading as she wishes. She considered that she didn't disturb anyone and continued as she wanted, The man didn't hesitate to ask her again to keep it down. All of the sudden, it seemed like a monster came out of the woman. She started screaming and yelling. Everybody was shocked. No one could move. The staff came in and the orthoptist too to settle the situation but the lady continued cursing and all of the sudden, collapsed on the floor. The incident was so painful to watch that my son wanted to leave the place.
The next day, I participated at a collective garage sale. I saw some of my dearest items go away and be sold for pennies. At some point, I was almost going to tell the buyer that I changed my mind about selling that teddy bear I had for years or that bag-back I kept since my childhood. But I let myself go through that process. I felt like my subconscious mind needed to let go of some things. It was perhaps because of what I had witness the day before.
Our attitude in the world tells a lot about how we feel. If we live in a world of negative thoughts, no matter how polite we are (that's what the woman kept on saying when yelling), our emotions can take over and sometimes consume in an ugly way.
While it's easy to say that one should control his/her emotions, but I believe it's a daily job. Working on oneself is a daily task. Many things can be done to brush up the mind and keep a healthy thinking: gratitude exercise, sports, eating well, affirmations... Each one of us is different and each one of us can find things that s/he can do to better manage negative emotions and feelings.
That woman got annoyed by the man's remark in the waiting room but it was clearly not the reason why she made a spectacle of herself in front of her son and other kids. It was the accumulation and consolidation of weeks, months and perhaps years of feelings. All what that woman needed is to express herself and be heard (she would have been an awful candidate for a hidden camera shooting).
Whether it be objects or feelings, I am thinking to seriously start let go of anything that can hold me back. Freeing up my mind just like freeing up my drawers can feel so good. Life's simple and we make it complicated. So today, I aim to get more inspiration from children because their world is free of bitterness. hatred, anger and resentment.
QUESTION : What is one thing you want to let go of today? And how do you stay calm and collected in difficult situations?
