Today is the day

It's that time of the year where I sit, look back at the 11 past months and reflect. Only this time it's different. I am stunned at how quickly time flies by. We always complain about the lack of time and how we don't have time to do anything. We don't have time to work out. We don't have time to visit family. We don't have time to read. We keep postponing important decisions or actions and believe that one day we'll get to them. Excuses, excuses and more excuses,

Why excuses? Not only we suck at time management and productivity skills but it's a lie. We do have time. We'd just rather spend hours on Facebook than do something uncomfortable.  In fact, our time's limited. In Morocco, I often hear a popular saying: 'God's days are long' in other words, if not today, there will be plenty of other days. I recently came to realize that this isn't true... How?

My two-month-old baby's newborn clothes don't fit him anymore. Prior to giving birth, I had purchased and received a ton of newborn clothes from everywhere. Different garments for different occasions. Today, my son cannot wear these clothes anymore. This is a pure indication that time passes and there's no going back. The baby's journey is even more deep as he's started from nothing, just an embryo, to becoming this 5-kg baby only in a few months.

I don't mean to stress out because I am getting old (er) or because time is going by. But this is, to me, a wake-up call that if we keep postponing something in our lives, we may never find the 'perfect time' we're looking for.

Our future is NOW. Our results are TODAY's actions. Let's not wait for that 'day' or 'year' to visit our loved ones, run our own businesses or travel the world and do the things that are important to us. Today's the best time we'll ever have.

While you reflect on that, I'll go pack the baby's clothes and find another one that's ready to come to this world who can hopefully make use of them.

Best of luck to you all and hope you make the most out of the rest of this year!!

  1. Why excuses? and why postponing important decisions?
for me it because of two things, The fear of fail that will make me loose my selfconfidence, and second the fear of success and i wont know how to handle it.
the easiest thing for me is to sit down and scroll facebook cause while doing so, my mind wont have to worry about anything ... and it sucks ! nchallah doing my best to change this in 2017

  2. Failure is not fatal. There's a saying that goes 'Fail quickly and move on'. One should have that mindset so that ultimately great things can be achieved.
Wishing you the best in 2017 with less social media consumption and more amazing accomplishments :)

Before you get out of bed and chase your dreams....

Here I am back from a mini vacation. As a read, I took Unlimited Power by Tony Robbins. Self-development books are great because they help you reboot your life in a matter of a few seconds, minutes, hours… What is interesting about the new phenomena of self-development and the Secret effect is that everyone now talks about gratitude and how important it is to be grateful for what you have before you ask for more or better. It is true that we spend our time looking for what we don’t have and we love comparing ourselves with others. Self-help books authors are right to suggest that one should implement gratitude exercises on a daily basis so s/he is aware of his/her given talents, resources and assets in life. It is a proven way that one will live happier and less miserable. To be honest, I didn’t need to read it from Tony or Ronda. Gratitude is something we are taught to ever since we are small children. After finishing a meal, you should say ‘hamdoullah’. Hamdoullah isn...

You need to do this every day...

Last November, a friend of mine came to visit and brought me a cute mug and a notebook. The mug I knew exactly what it was for. However, the notebook was subject to brainstorming. Most of my notes are taken on a computer or on my smartphone. What would I do with a few hundred pages and a pink-colored hard cover? The answer didn't come easy. This year, I decided I am creating my own planner. I pulled out colored pens and jotted down the outline of my calendar and there you go. A few bucks saved but mostly, a very unique and personalized way of organizing my to-do list, thoughts, projects, ideas etc. On the first days of writing down my to-do list for the week, I wrote things I was grateful for on that day. At first, this exercise seemed difficult. Nothing major was happening and I didn't consider that day to be exceptionally good. After a few days, the exercise started to get smoother. I realized that being grateful for the day is firstly being aware of each moment and es...
